Cuba is ripe with stories; it has a history so utterly unique and dramatic that many people both Cuban and otherwise have brought its past to life with stunning and compelling narratives. There is no more immersive way to experience a country without traveling there than through their stories and sagas, their collective imagination and memory.

The Motorcycle Diaries, Ernesto Guevara (1995)

You'll see copies of this in many a young traveler's hand throughout Central/South America, now immortalized on screen in the popular movie starring Gael Garcia Bernal. This is 23-year-old Che Guevara's lively travel diaries recording his journey across the continent with his best friend Alberto Granado. If you're interested in the development of that iconic character, the formation of his identity and political beliefs beyond the myth, then this book is vital. It also offers a snapshot of the chronic poverty of 1950s Latin America.

Véleményem: egy másik érdekes és fontos olvasmány, ha valóban meg akarod ismerni Che Guevara-t (- valamint a különböző eseményeket és döntéseket az életében, és a még mindig körülötte terjengő pletykákat).
A szerző számos különböző forrást használt fel (akárcsak Alvarez de Toledo, Anderson és Taibo) és nemcsak Che jó tetteiről és pozítiv oldaláról beszél, hanem a hibáiról és a rossz tulajdonságairól is, sosem titkol el semmit, ugyanakkor megőrzi a támogató hangot.
Kicsit olvashatunk Fidel Castro-ról, a - néha különös - tetteiről, valamint Che magánéletéről is, a pletykákról (mint például az állítólag szerelmi kapcsolatáról Tania-val és a házasságon kívűl született gyermekeiről) de a könyv leginkább a történelmi oldaláról szól, a gerillaként, miniszterként és diplomataként végzett munkájáról.

My opinion: another interesting and important book if you really want to know Che Guevara (- and also the different events and decisions in his life, and the gossips still circling around him).
The author uses a lot of different sources (just like Alvarez de Toledo, Anderson and Taibo) and he discusses not only Che's good actions and good side, but his mistakes and bad characteristics as well, never concealing anything while yet keeping the supporting tone.
We can also read a little about Fidel Castro, his - sometimes ambigous - actions and about Che's private life, the gossips around him (like his love relationship with Tania and his children out of wedlock) but the book is mainly about his historical side, his work as a guerilla, minister and diplomat.

A beszámolók szerint Che középszerű orvos és rettenetes diplomata volt. De gerillaként dinamikus és elszánt harcos volt, mozgékony és inspiráló. Ugyanez igaz az írásaira. A kubai forradalom saját reneszánsz embere tucatnyi művet hagyott hátra, amelyek később könyv formájában meg is jelentek. És Guevara-t olvasni — a Kerouac-szerű Motorcycle Diaries-től (A motoros naplója) a kevésbé olvasmányos Guerilla Warfare-ig (Gerillaháború)  — izgalmas bepillantást enged Latin-Amerika egyik legmeghatározóbb alakjának elméjébe.

7. Ernesto “Che” Guevara (Argentina)
By all accounts, Che was a mediocre doctor and an abysmal diplomat. But as a guerilla, Guevara was dynamic and decisive, fluid and inspiring. Same goes for the OG of insurgency’s writings. The Cuban Revolution’s own Renaissance Man left behind dozens of published works. And reading Guevara — from the Kerouac-esque Motorcycle Diaries to the slightly less readable Guerilla Warfare — is a thrilling peak into the mind of one of the most polarizing figures in all of Latin America.

Délelőtt egy kicsit kibővítettem a Che Guevara-ról szóló, alapvető olvasmányokat tartalmazó részt, valamint egy újabb könyvet csatoltam hozzá, az egykori munkatárs, Orlando Borrega által írt Che - El Camino del Fuego című művet.
(Eredeti nyelven - spanyolul - ingyen letölthető az Idézetek és beszédek című modulban, magyar nyelven eddig még nem jelent meg - és valószínűleg nem is fog, tekintve, hogy Che nem egy keresett (vagy népszerű) téma az országunkban és a lefordított, korábban megjelent könyveit vagy a róla szóló műveket is szinte lehetetetlen beszerezni).

In the morning I have worked on the module containing the list of the essential books about Che Guevara.
All of them were given a short review containing my opinion (if I have read them before) and I have added a new one: Che - El Camino del Fuego, written by Orlando Borrego who was Che's colleague in the Ministry of Industry. (The book can be downloaded free in the original Spanish language from the module titled Quotes and speeches).
