Felix René Mederos Pazos (1933 - 1996) elismert kubai poszterkészítő és grafikus volt.
A hatvanas években kezdett el propaganda célú posztereket készíteni a kubai forradalomról és hőseiről, majd 1969-ben Vietnámba utazott, hogy megörökítse az ott dúló háború képeit, a borzalmakat és a vietnámi nép hősiességét.
Élete utolsó munkája egy 14 darabból álló, Che Guevara-t ábrázoló szitanyomat-gyűjtemény volt.

Felix René Mederos Pazos (1933 – 1996) was a well-known Cuban poster artist and graphic designer. 
In the sixties he started creating propaganda posters about the Cuban Revolution and its heroes, then in 1969 he travelled to Vietnam to paint the different scenes of the war, its brutality and the courage of the Vietnamese people. 
His last project was a 14-panel portable mural series on Che Guevara.

Last Thursday, Tommy was invited to address a pro-independence rally in Fife. The meeting was held in the beautiful St Bryce Kirk Church in Kirkcaldy. What a stunning venue it was. It used to be a Free Church and was taken over by The Church of Scotland. In fact Gordon Brown's father used to be the minister at St Bryce's. Over 300 people attended the meeting and Tommy passionately put forward his pro-independence argument very well and was warmly received. It was, however, a wee story he told that night which I had never heard before that interested me the most.

It involved another small country with a tremendous history, Cuba. The name Che Guevara is world renowned. He has been an inspiring figure to millions over many years. The name Mario Teran is, however, virtually unknown. Yet it was Mario Teran who shot and killed Che while he was a wounded prisoner of the Bolivian army on October 9, 1967. Mario Teran was a sergeant in the Bolivian army and was one of the soldiers who drew lots to decide who was to kill Che. In an act of incredible forgiveness and humanity some four decades later, Mario Teran's cataract blindness was treated by Cuban doctors sent to Bolivia to implement a free programme of eye treatments across Latin America. In 2006, the man who shot one of the leaders of the Cuban revolution had his blindness cured by doctors from that country. He was able to see his grandchildren for the first time. I have had the pleasure of holidaying in Cuba on five separate occasions. The people are so kind and helpful. I thought their treatment of Mario Teran's blindness in 2006 summed up how noble they are as a nation.

Understanding Che Guevara - 42 years after his murder

Che was executed in cold blood 42 years ago by a U.S. lead death squad that captured him in Bolivia. Then, as now, he had emerged as a prominent symbol of self-sacrifice, armed struggle, internationalism and uncompromising opposition to U.S. domination. His death stands as a glaring example of the role the U.S. and its agents play in the brutal repression of humanity's highest aspirations. The torturers of the CIA were not invented on 9/11 -- but have a very long and bloody history.

Che is a highly romantic martyr of the people's cause. But he was also a revolutionary leader and thinker in a particular complex time; he was associated closely with a specific series of approaches and strategies.

Che (and the Cuban movement he was part of) had a particular line on the role of the people in their own emancipation. It was a view that exalted the actions of small military groupings of "heroic guerrillas" (called focos) in galvanizing revolution. Unlike the Maoists at that same time, Che and Fidel Castro were not advocates of a "land to the tiller" agrarian revolution, but sought to nationalize the existing plantation structure of Cuba and similar countries.

Ulises Estrada, a Cuban revolutionary who aided Ernesto Che Guevara's campaigns in Africa has died

Ulises Estrada, a Cuban revolutionary who aided Ernesto Che Guevara's campaigns in Africa during the 1960s, has died, the official Cuban newspaper Granma said Tuesday. He was 79.
Estrada, who died Sunday, held important posts in the Cuban Interior Ministry over the years, performing "sensitive missions" related to Latin American guerrilla movements in the 1960s, Granma said.
He was the lover of the East German-born communist revolutionary known as Tania, nee Tamara Bunke, who was killed fighting alongside Guevara in Bolivia in 1967. Estrada was close to the legendary Guevara, a leader of the Cuban revolution who left the island in the 1960s to foment revolutions in Africa and Latin America before his death in Bolivia in 1967. Estrada "collaborated with commandante Ernesto Che Guerra in his internationalist cause in the Congo and the national liberation struggle in Guinea Bissau, alongside Amilcar Cabral," Granma said.
In 1975, Estrada was named to the number two position in the Communist Party's America Department, which managed relations with the region's leftist guerrilla movements. He also served as Cuba's ambassador in Jamaica, Yemen, Algeria and Mauritania, and was a journalist for Granma and other Cuban media.
In recent years, he was the editor of the magazine Tricontinental.
