Documentary premiere in Tokyo
The Japanese documentary filmmaker, Kazuko Nisikawa's Cuba, Cuba, Cuba had its premiere in Tokyo, followed by a conversation with Dr Aleida Guevara March, Che Guevara's daughter.
The event, which was created to pay homage to the late Ernesto Che Guevara and the Cuban General Antonio Maceo (also known as The Bronze Titan), was organised by the Cuban Embassy in coordination with the Cervantes Institution and the Japanese director.
The film, produced and directed by Nishikawa, was filmed in Cuba in 2010 and it includes interviews with the representatives of Cuban arts, sports, culture and education, including Doctor Guevara, the singer Silvio Rodríguez, the musician Jesús "Chucho" Valdés, the retired runner, Ana Fidelia Quirot, the writer Zenel Paz and the painters Zaida del Rio and Nelson Domínguez. In the film also students and professors of the Cuban school Solidaridad con Panamá (Solidarity with Panama) spoke. (In Cuba this educational centre is famous for its dedication to children with different kinds of disability.)
During the event, held at the Cervantes Institution, the Cuban ambassador Marcos Rodríguez spoke about the historical coincidence that Ernesto Che Guevara and Antonio Maceo, two of the most important men in the history of Cuba, were both born on 14th June.
Dr Guevara is going to take part in a tour of several Japanese cities that contains conferences after the presentation of the Cuban documentary film.

Ernesto Che Guevara, the Argentine-born revolutionary, minister, guerrilla leader and writer, received his medical degree in Buenos Aires, then played an essential part in the Cuban Revolution in liberating and rebuilding the country. He did his best to set up the Cuban economy, fought for the improvement of the education and the health system, the elimination of illiteracy and racial prejudice. He promoted voluntary work by his own example. He fought in the Congo and in Bolivia - he was thirty-nine years old, when he was trapped and executed by the joint American-Bolivian forces.
