Charge and refutation: Che Guevara was a racist

Che Guevara was always a controversial figure of the history.
Many people around the world adore him and respect him as a revolutionary hero, an example to be followed, especially in Latin and South America, and on the African continent. The Mexican revolutionary fighter, Subcomandante Marcos and the late ex-president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela both respected Che and held a high opinion of him. People living in countries oppressed by a foreign power or people who feel that their freedom is threatened by their own government, wear his face on their T-shirts and their flags when they go on demonstrating and they consider Che as their leader and example.
Others - living in the capitalist world - hate him and call him a racist mass murderer.

What is the truth? The truth is that Che Guevara was not a saint. He was a human person, who wanted to create amazing things like freedom for everyone and racial equality for every person, independent of the colour of their skin. He also made mistakes and he killed - but he was not a "butcher" as his enemies like to call him.

Here I would like to clear some of the lies of the anti-Guevara propaganda (created and supported by the American government and many Cuban exiles who have been living in the USA since the victory of the Cuban Revolution) that has been spread since the 1960s.
The articles were written by me, by the help of Che Guevara's writings and speeches that I quoted with their source so anyone can check them.

Here is the first topic: - Charge: Che Guevara was a racist.

Ernesto “Che” Guevara y la guerra civil española

Last night I found an interesting-looking article in Spanish, titled Ernesto “Che” Guevara y la guerra civil española.
Unfortunately my Spanish knowledge is too little now to be able to translate such a long and difficult article, but I enclose it here, so everyone, who speak Spanish well, could read it and know something more about Che.

Here is the article:

Ernesto Che Guevara: Cuban citizen by birth

On 7th February 1959 the Council of the Ministers approves the Basic Law of the Republic, based on the Constitution of 1940, although with some modifications according to the development of the revolutionary process. One of the most discussed items of the mentioned Law was the Nr. 12 - in connection with the citizenship - because when it was proposed that Commander Ernesto Guevara de la Serna should be recognised as a Cuban citizen by birth, President Urrutia claimed that that status should be applied to all the foreigners who had belonged to the Rebel Army. The ministers did not agree with him. In the end, Che became the exception and the other foreigners were received Cuban citizenship by naturalization.

The article Nr 12 says that the foreigners, who fought against the tyranny, overthrown on 31st December 1959, serving in the Rebel Army for two years or more, and held the rank of commander at least for a year, could receive Cuban citizenship by birth.

Luís Buch, the Secretary of the Council at the time, recalls:
"In my office I informed him about the reason why he had to come here: the Council of the Ministers had agreed to grant him Cuban citizenship by birth, for the exceptional merits that he showed during the Revolutionary War. Che, without being surprised, thought that he didn't deserve it. According to him, he had only fought in Cuba as he would have done it anywhere else in the world, for the freedom of a people. I guessed that he wouldn't accept this merit because of his modesty and I told him: Such an enormous honour cannot be refused, it would hurt the people of Cuba and the revolutionary government. Then he hugged me, being moved. "

This recognition had happened only one, previous occasion, with the Generalissimo Máximo Gómez Báez, who was born in the Dominican Republic, and who was the Commander in chief of the Liberation Army.

Ernesto Che Guevara, Light of the Dawn

"Welcome death if my battle cry has reached some receptive ear and there is another hand to wield our weapons ...” Che

In a small school of the Andean town of Higuera, Bolivia, was arrested on October 8, l967 Ernesto (Che) Guevara, the guerrilla fighter who also fought in the Cuban Revolution and Congo. The following day he was foully murdered and his physical disappearance sowed hope for the righteous men of the world.

His image and strength have multiplied throughout the earth. His figure grows in front of the prevailing injustice, inequality and poverty in the world. He is example of pure man taught us that to be revolutionary is to climb to the top step of the human species. His firm voice of comrade is heard in each battle field.

Nico Lopez, a young orthodox of autodidact Marxist training, met Ernesto (Che) Guevara in Guatemala, on January 3, 1954, and it is said he was the first one in calling him Che and telling him about the attack to the Moncada Garrison headed by Fidel Castro, so their similar ideas and the immense human value lead them a great friendship.

In those days Che confessed: "Nico was right in Guatemala when he said that if something has occurred in Cuba after Marti, was Fidel Castro; he will make the revolution. We agree deeply ... I would be willing to help only a person like him."

By words of Leonardo Tamayo (known as Urbano in the Bolivian guerrilla and who was another guerrilla native of the Sierra Maestra) was heard of the audacity and courage of Ernesto (Che) Guevara. "He never thought he was superior or better than anyone else in spite of he was the head of the Column Four. For him a man was different or similar to others by the moral principles, patriotic ideas and personal courage."

Harry Villegas, a guerrilla fighter, entered Havana along with Commander Che Guevara and later said about his comrade "he assumed the direction of the Cabaña with equanimity and respect for the officers who were there. He never hesitated. Not even in the most difficult moments. Che never lost control, enthusiasm and conviction in victory. On that October 8 he thought of the possible success, so he was considering getting out of the area. He never spoke of death. He never conceived it as something hypothetical,... he never talk about death as such, he never mentioned it. Che died as he lived, full of optimism." Because men like him are the light of dawn.

Ernesto Che Guevara, the Argentine-born revolutionary, minister, guerrilla leader and writer, received his medical degree in Buenos Aires, then played an essential part in the Cuban Revolution in liberating and rebuilding the country. He did his best to set up the Cuban economy, fought for the improvement of the education and the health system, the elimination of illiteracy and racial prejudice. He promoted voluntary work by his own example. He fought in the Congo and in Bolivia - he was thirty-nine years old, when he was trapped and executed by the joint American-Bolivian forces.
